Listing Tips, Part 1: Taking great photos
Mar 20, 2024
The first step to earning on Yoodlize is to create a high-quality listing that draws the interest of potential renters. The components of our most successful listings are photos, price, title and description. In the first of three articles about listing tips, let's talk about great photos.
Taking quality photos
High-quality photos are critical to making a great first impression. Luckily, you don’t have to be a professional to take great photos of your items. Follow these simple rules and you’ll be in good shape.
Clear & in focus - Make sure the image is clear, not pixelated from low quality (a photo taken on a newer smartphone should be just fine). Also make sure the image is in focus and is the main subject matter of the photo.
Fill the frame & use a neutral background - Make it easy to see exactly what you are renting. Eliminate clutter from the background and make the item the main topic of the image by filling the frame.
Natural lighting - Turns out the sun does a pretty darn good job of lighting things up! Trying to recreate it with indoor lighting or a flash is really hard. Take photos in soft natural light. This typically means in a room with a lot of windows during the day or outside in the evening.
Multiple angles & items in use - It’s often helpful to show multiple photos. Show the product in use and all the things that are included (e.g., paddle board, paddle, pump, life jacket, carrying bag). This helps people understand what’s included, how to use the item or even get excited about it.
Square crop - Photos are displayed on the Yoodlize app as square images. To ensure you know how the uploaded photo will display, it’s best to shoot your original photos in a square orientation.
